Flamenco Midwest is honored to present talented flamenco dancer Isaac De Los, who will perform for the first time in Michigan, Sunday, March 26th at the International Institute along with Amparo Heredia Reyes, winner of the first prize in the “Sólea 2016 Festival del Cante de las Minas de la Union”. De Los Reyes has been featured at the prestigious Festival de Jerez with the acclaimed work, “Puerta del Silencio.” The show, which begins at 7:00 pm, will also include internationally acclaimed guitarist Ángel Ruíz, master of flamenco palmas (rhythmic clapping) Manolo De Córdoba and Amaito, our own local guitarist who performs internationally.

Flamenco is an artistic expression that originated in Andalusia in southern Spain. This powerful, emotionally charged art form includes song “(cante),” dance “(baile)” and musicianship “(toque).” Flamenco “cante” expresses feelings of grief, joy, tragedy, rejoicing and fear. The “baile” is a dance of passion demonstrating feelings from sadness to joy. Unlike previous Flamenco shows produced in the area that typically feature female dancers, this time, the audience will experience a different technique as we are showcasing a male dancer. The men make heavier use of their feet to create a distinctive sound with their shoes.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit, a United Way organization that has served the community since 1919 in legal, social services and education.  Among these services is the celebration of cultural that cultivating understanding and harmony among people from diverse backgrounds.

Doors open at 7:00 PM. VIP tickets will include a delicious tapas meal and admission to the show. VIP tickets are $50. General Admission tickets do not include a tapas meal and are $35. Students can attend the event for only $25 with proper student I.D.
